According to a text sent by the Heremans family who were in Belgium, in 1928 Frans (son of Theóphilo), Olga, and their middle son Jacquino returned to Brazil, where they stayed for six months in an attempt to prevent the division of the farm lands. Frans remained there until 1940. He returned to Eksaarde because of the blockade on coffee shipments from Brazil to Europe. After the death of his father in 1946, he took over the roasting business (Estrella).

The exact date of Pedro Hereman’s return to his homeland is not known. However, it is known that his son Christian (Cristiano) and daughter-in-law Helena Hereman, married to Antonio Alves Cavalheiro, remained in Brazil managing the farm. Pedro Hereman died on July 23, 1932. (Figure page 48)

According to reports, after his marriage in 1915 to Helena Hereman (Pedro’s daughter), Antonio Alves Cavalheiro began managing the farm’s business affairs. Their children were Nelson Alves Cavalheiro, Moacyr Alves Cavalheiro, Celina Alves Cavalheiro, and Pedro Alves Cavalheiro. Cristiano Hereman, partner and brother-in-law, took care of production. Before the creation of this partnership, Antonio Alves Cavalheiro had already distinguished himself as a strong advocate for regional causes. He worked as a “fireman” for the railway construction workers, cook for the company, and was also appointed telegraph operator for the railway company. Later, he became assistant chief of the Paulo Salles Station in the municipality of Conchal, until he assumed leadership of the Guaiquica Station.

According to testimonies from former residents, at the beginning of the 1920s Ítalo Franceschetti and his sons opened a carpentry workshop in a rented building on the Guaiquica Farm (São Pedro). There they produced ploughs, agricultural implements, and cutting tools. These products were distributed throughout several regions of the State of São Paulo, especially to Ourinhos. The Franceschetti family prospered. Their children married and settled in colony houses that they later acquired.

Around 1930, Antonio Alves Cavalheiro undertook the construction of the second classroom of the Capela São Pedro School Group, inaugurated on June 29, 1936. For this project he received help from the community. Pedro Hereman’s son-in-law was a promoter of education. Besides teaching at the Guaiquica school, following the example of his father-in-law, Cavalheiro and his wife Helena also hosted the other hired teachers. After the arrival of Lula, in 1937 he managed to bring electricity to the property and improvements that he could not enjoy due to his death on February 21, 1938. Until then, Engenheiro Coelho was only one of the colonies of Fazenda Guaiquica (São Pedro), with no prospects for development. From 1938 onward, with the construction of the Limeira–Mogi Mirim highway passing beside the colony, and the Engenheiro Coelho–Artur Nogueira road linking it to Cosmópolis, the situation changed.
